STEPHENVILLE, Texas — More than 170 donors kicked off the holiday season Tuesday with 257 gifts supporting Tarleton State University students. In total, donors gave $228,095 to benefit Tarleton colleges and student scholarships, programs and activities, shattering last year’s mark of $164,173.
“Tarleton alumni, faculty, staff, students, friends and family took on the challenge of making dreams come true on Giving Tuesday — a global giving day,” said Janice Horak, assistant vice president for Tarleton’s Department of Development. “With so many options available, the Tarleton community chose to better our university with more than $228,000 in gifts for scholarships, programs, research and activities. We are humbled by their generosity and commitment to our students’ futures.”
This was the third year for the university to participate in the annual global celebration known as Giving Tuesday, observed just after Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Since its beginning in 2012, Giving Tuesday has grown significantly, with donors throughout the world participating. Almost $2 billion was given globally with U.S. gifts totaling a record $511 million.
