STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Dr. Kayla Peak, associate dean of the College of Education and dead of the School of Kinesiology at Tarleton State University, will receive the Honor Award from the Texas Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (TAHPERD) at a 7 p.m. ceremony, Friday, Dec. 6, in Arlington.
The Honor Award recognizes those who have made significant contributions within to health, physical education, and the recreation profession. The award is the second highest accolade bestowed by the state organization.
Prior to becoming the dead of the School of Kinesiology, Peak led the Department of Kinesiology at Tarleton for three years. She is a former Faculty Fellow in the University’s Center for Instructional Innovation, was honored with the Texas A&M University System Excellence in Teaching Award in 2009, 2010 and 2011, and earned Tarleton’s Jack and Louise Arthur Award, recognizing excellence in the classroom in 2011.
Additionally, she was recognized as the TAHPERD Administrator of the Year in 2017 and the University Physical Educator of the Year in 2012.
The awards ceremony is part of the association’s 96th annual convention.
TAHPERD is composed of more than 3,500 professional and student members serving education from early childhood through college. The organization was founded in 1923 and is the only association in Texas serving education in all four of our disciplines — health, physical education, recreation and dance.
