Fall 2018 Outstanding Clinical Teacher Awards

STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Tarleton State University’s College of Education awarded two soon-to-be graduates with the Fall 2018 Outstanding Clinical Teacher Award at last week’s “Reflections” ceremony upon completion of the cohort’s student-teaching internships.
Faculty from the college and the Office of Educator Preparation Services presented the award to graduates Vicky Rivera and Grant Shane, who will receive their diplomas on Friday, Dec. 14.
Rivera, a native of McGregor, Texas, concluded her clinical teaching at Waco ISD’s Cedar Ridge Elementary School and the Lake Air Montessori School under the supervision of cooperating teachers Kathy Cowan and Megan Perez. Serving as Rivera’s university field supervisor this semester was Nina Bible. Rivera will receive an Early Childhood through 6th grade (EC-6) teaching certificate along with an English-as-a-Second Language (ESL) certification.
Shane, a native of Clifton, Texas, finished his clinical teaching at Eastland ISD’s Eastland High School and Eastland Middle School under the supervision of Stephen Cox. Serving as Shane’s university field supervisor was Dr. Matt Loyd. Shane will receive an All-Level Music teaching certificate.
The new Outstanding Clinical Teacher Award presented by the College of Education replaces the former Robert H. Elliott Award, which recognized students for similar achievements.
Beginning this semester, recipients of the Outstanding Clinic Teacher Award at Tarleton will be submitted to the Texas Directors of Field Experiences (TDFE) to be considered for the statewide Outstanding Texas Clinical Teacher Award. TDFE is under the auspices of the Consortium of State Organizations for Texas Teacher Education (CSOTTE).
Recipients of the statewide award will be announced in August 2019 during the annual CSOTTE Conference, slated for Oct. 27-29 in Frisco.
