STEPHENVILLE, Texas—Back-to-school weekend kicks off this Friday at Tarleton State University when some 2,100 freshmen—the largest first-year class in Tarleton history—move into their home-away-from-home on the Stephenville campus.

Tarleton’s Move-In Experience begins at 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19, with the last reporting time for the Class of 2020 beginning at noon Sunday, Aug. 21. Expect cars and trucks full of everything from pillows and printers to table lamps and towels.

Volunteers will keep traffic moving along streets adjacent to the university and direct students to staging areas or residence halls. To help minimize traffic congestion, all freshmen have received a Move-In Guide with specific reporting times and locations.

“Our goal is to make the Move-In Experience as easy and hassle-free as possible for students and Stephenville residents,” said Robert Nimmo, director of Recreational Sports and Move-In organizer. “Some 2,000 volunteers from more than 40 groups and student organizations will put in long hours this weekend to ensure that Move-In is as smooth as possible. We appreciate the patience and understanding of Stephenville residents as students experience campus life and the surrounding community for the first time.”

New residents to Heritage, Legends, Legacy, Centennial, Honors and Traditions will report to the west side of Memorial Stadium off North Harbin Drive.

Hunewell and Hunewell Annex residents will report to the corner of Ollie and Tarleton streets.

Volunteers will help unload vehicles and carry student belongings to residence halls.

Local residents should expect heavy traffic on Frey and North Lillian streets as students are directed to park in the university lot adjacent to Chamberlin Elementary School. Tarleton lot P30, at the intersection of Washington and South Lillian streets, will serve as overflow parking throughout the weekend.
