NAMI-Waco Chapter Board of Directors Appointment

WACO, Texas—Dr. Tancy Clarissa Horn-Johnson, program manager and instructor for Tarleton State University-Waco’s social work program, has been elected president of the board of directors of the Waco chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).
NAMI Waco is dedicated to improving quality of life for persons with a mental health diagnosis, their families and friends, and the providers who treat them. Trained volunteers use a research-based curriculum called Family-to-Family to provide free education and support.
“We are pleased to have Dr. Horn-Johnson take on this new role on our board and are confident she will be a great asset as we move forward in our mission to raise awareness of mental health in our community,” said Cynthia Cunningham, executive director of NAMI Waco.
A licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) supervisor, Horn-Johnson joined Tarleton-Waco in 2012 as an instructor and advisor. In addition to serving as program manager for Tarleton-Waco’s social work program, she is responsible for recruitment, social media and outreach events. She is a member of the Prosper Waco Health Steering Committee, the Women’s Health Committee and the Mental Health Committee.
Horn-Johnson has a bachelor’s degree in psychology, communications and women’s studies and a master’s in social work with a clinical concentration from the University of Pittsburgh. She recently earned a doctorate of social work from Capella University.
“I’m honored to serve NAMI Waco and the local community,” she said. “I am passionate about the work of NAMI and look forward to providing leadership to the NAMI board of directors through continued networking and connection-building with colleagues and agency contacts in Waco and surrounding areas.”
