STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Tarleton State University steer roper Walt Arnold posted a third-go 4.8 Thursday to stay on track for a spot in Saturday’s championship finals of the College National Finals in Casper, Wyo.
His Thursday effort is fifth in the go-round. Combined with twin 4.2 times on his first two steers, he finishes the preliminary round with a three-head 13.2.
Today’s performance will feature three Tarleton competitors — breakaway roper Sarah Angelone, saddle bronc rider Brody Wells and tie-down roper Brayden Roe — each vying for a spot in the finals.
Angelone, the two-time defending National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association Southwest Region champion, carries a 4.4 two-head total; Wells, also a regional champ, boasts a two-ride tally of 153 on scores of 80 and 73; and numbers don’t add up Roe’s 21.8 combined time came on runs of 10.7 and 11.1.
Both remaining performances will be televised on ESPN3.
