Governor Greg Abbott recently approved a record $1.19 billion in new spending for The Texas A&M System, ushering in an unprecedented 30 percent growth in general revenue for Tarleton State University for the next biennium.
Tarleton State saw the second-highest percentage growth in funding in the system, only behind A&M College Station, and was also allocated a $5 million exceptional item, reflecting its contributions to research and innovation in addressing healthcare needs throughout the region and state.
The new spending, outlined across several bills, allows us to freeze undergraduate tuition and academic fees for Texas residents over the next two years, furthering our commitment to providing opportunity and access for all students.
“The unwavering support of our state legislators, Texas A&M System Board of Regents, and Chancellor John Sharp continues to position Tarleton State as a leading institution in higher education,” said Tarleton President James Hurley. “The recently signed appropriations bill and exceptional item will continue to propel us forward in our mission of providing an outstanding educational experience for our students. As one of the nation’s fastest-growing comprehensive public universities, it’s truly a great time to be a Tarleton Texan.”
A founding member of The Texas A&M System, Tarleton State University is breaking records — in enrollment, research, scholarship, athletics, philanthropy and engagement — while transforming the lives of approximately 18,000 students in Stephenville, Fort Worth, Waco, Bryan and online. For 125 years, Tarleton State has been committed to accessible higher education opportunities for all while helping students grow academically, socially and professionally through programs that emphasize real world learning and address regional, state and national needs.
