Texan Rider Blonde Ale Taps into Tarleton State Fan Base

STEPHENVILLE, Texas — There’s a new beer in town, and it’s purple. At least the can is, and Tarleton State enthusiasts are lining up for Revolver Brewing’s Texan Rider Blonde Ale.

“The response has been fantastic — sales at Memorial Stadium have exceeded our expectations, and the beer has been popular at local retail establishments,” said Mike Benge, Executive Director of Auxiliary Services, Campus Operations. “HEB sold out of Texan Rider in no time. Revolver has had to increase their brewing frequency to keep up with demand.”

Described as a smooth-tasting light beer with a hint of lemon and lime, the ale is made with pilsner malt and citrusy mandarina and centennial hops. A distinctive can features the iconic Texan Rider and Tarleton gates and proclaims the brew “perfect for cheering on the purple and white.”

Benge said a Tarleton-themed beer that could be sold at university sporting events, around town and to thirsty members of Texan Nation seemed like a no-brainer when pondering products to expand Tarleton’s brand. Beer and sports go together, right?

“Not only does Texan Rider taste good, it’s also a great way to promote Tarleton State University and Revolver Brewing,” Benge said. “Texan Rider is brewed in Granbury and Arlington, so it seemed like a natural fit.”

This is Revolver’s first collaboration with a university. Meagan Dake, marketing manager for the Granbury-based brewery, said the beer was introduced on tap and recently expanded to include cans.

“Our distributor has been hard at work alongside us getting this out at retailers so that Texans are able to find it at their favorite stores,” Dake said. “We have had a great response toward the product overall and demand is very high, which we are so excited about.”

Texan Rider is available at several Tarleton athletic facilities during sporting events and at Blaze Pizza on the Stephenville campus. Multiple grocery stores, convenience stores, liquor stores and bars in Stephenville and the surrounding area offer it as well.

A founding member of The Texas A&M System, Tarleton State University is breaking records — in enrollment, research, scholarship, athletics, philanthropy and engagement — while transforming the lives of approximately 18,000 students in Stephenville, Fort Worth, Waco, Bryan and online. For 125 years, Tarleton State has been committed to accessible higher education opportunities for all while helping students grow academically, socially and professionally through programs that emphasize real world learning and address regional, state and national needs.
