Dr. Kevin B. Johnson Named Dean of Tarleton State College of Science and Mathematics

STEPHENVILLE, Texas — After serving in an interim capacity over the past two months, Dr. Kevin B. Johnson has been named Dean of Tarleton State University’s College of Science and Mathematics.

His new position is effective Oct. 1.

Since joining Tarleton State in 2023, Dr. Johnson has served as Associate Dean of the College of Science and Mathematics and as Director of the Timberlake Biological Research Station in Goldthwaite.

“In a short period of time leading our College of Science and Mathematics, Dr. Johnson has provided steady leadership,” said Dr. Diane Stearns, Tarleton State Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs. “He will work collaboratively with faculty in the college to provide an outstanding experience for our students.”

Dr. Johnson earned a bachelor’s degree in zoology from Brigham Young University and a doctorate in biology from the University of Oregon. In his previous role at Florida Tech, he served as a faculty member and as program chair for marine sciences and related programs in the Department of Ocean Engineering and Marine Sciences.

“I am pleased to have been asked to take the helm of the College of Science and Mathematics at Tarleton State University,” said Dr. Johnson. “The college is entering a phase of unprecedented growth, with increased enrollment and research expenditures. I will be working hard to supply faculty with the resources needed to maintain our high teaching standards while expanding student research opportunities. I am grateful that I have an outstanding team of department heads, faculty and staff to help COSM reach new heights.”
