STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Paying it forward for Tarleton State University students, First National Bank of Granbury today donated $27,500 to endow a scholarship in concert with the school’s annual Giving Day.
This is the second consecutive year the bank has funded a scholarship on Giving Day.
“We want to help students,” said John Henry Luton, chairman of First National’s board of directors. “Several of our officers are Tarleton alumni, and some of our employees currently study at the university. Tarleton is our local college; they help us out and we help them out.”
Locally owned and operated on the historic Hood County Courthouse square for more than 130 years, First National Bank previously donated to Tarleton in support of the Dora Lee Langdon Cultural and Educational Center in Granbury, which the university continues to operate in partnership with the city.
Tarleton’s annual Giving Day challenges supporters, alumni and parents to pay it forward to the university’s students through donations to scholarships, programs and activities. Gifts can be made online at http://givingday.tarleton.edu until midnight today.
Tarleton, founding member of The Texas A&M University System, provides a student-focused, value-driven educational experience, marked by academic innovation and a dedication to transform today’s scholars into tomorrow’s leaders. Offering degree programs in Stephenville, Fort Worth, Waco, Midlothian and online to more than 13,000 students, Tarleton engages with communities through real-world learning experiences to address societal needs while maintaining its core values of integrity, leadership, tradition, civility, excellence and service.
