STEPHENVILLE, Texas—Dr. Rick Richardson has been named chief financial officer for Tarleton State University and senior vice president for the Division of Finance and Administration.

Richardson has led the division in an interim capacity since last August. During that time, he helped the university explore issues for a potential move to an athletics Division I conference and implemented processes to improve the management of contractors and vendors.

Richardson joined the university in 2009 as vice president of institutional advancement and has been instrumental in helping develop Tarleton’s new planned campus in Fort Worth, scheduled to open in fall 2019.

“Dr. Richardson’s experience and background in higher education administration and finance, along with his passion for Tarleton, will ensure we continue to provide the resources needed to be the premier student-focused university in Texas and beyond,” said President F. Dominic Dottavio.

As part of Tarleton’s leadership team, Richardson oversees the budgetary and fiscal affairs of the university, including planning, monitoring and managing overall financial plans, policies, programs and operations.

“I am humbled and honored to have been asked to serve in this role,” Richardson said. “These are exciting and challenging times for Tarleton. I look forward to working with Dr. Dottavio and the university’s executive team to provide an affordable, quality higher education that enables our students to pursue their dreams.”

Richardson earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Baylor University and his MBA from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. He has a doctorate in organizational leadership from Regent University in Virginia and a juris doctorate from Baylor University School of Law.

He is a certified public accountant and recognized by the State Bar of Texas as an attorney and counselor at law.
