STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Dr. Alfonso “Alfie” Pino paid it forward to Tarleton Texans today with half of a $10,000 gift to the College of Science and Technology to support pre-health professionals.
A Tarleton State University alumnus, Pino made the first half of the gift — $5,000 — as part of the school’s annual Giving Day.
“I am very thankful for the education I received at Tarleton,” Pino said of his bachelor’s degree in biology. “My time as a Texan prepared me for the success I enjoy today. Giving back is the right thing to do.”
After his stint at Tarleton, Pino continued his education at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School and now is an anesthesiologist in Dallas, serving as managing partner at Allied Anesthesia and president of Nucleus Healthcare Group LLC.
“We need healthcare professionals more now than ever,” Pino said. “They’re vital to the physical and economic health of every person in the U.S. I want to play a role in helping Tarleton students prepare for medical, dentistry, pharmacy or vet school and realize their dream of becoming a healthcare professional. To make our world a better place.”
Pino is a member of the executive committee and board of directors of the Dallas Summer Musicals and the Latino Coalition. He has served on the board of directors of the Dallas Life Foundation, the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center, the Cultural Affairs Commission, the Red Latina and the Greater Dallas Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
Tarleton’s annual Giving Day challenges supporters, alumni and parents to pay it forward to the university’s students through donations to scholarships, programs and activities. Gifts can be made online at http://givingday.tarleton.edu until midnight today.
