STEPHENVILLE, Texas— Early this afternoon Tarleton State University issued an accidental Code Purple alert message regarding shots being fired. No shots were fired nor was there any other cause for alarm.
The university deeply regrets this error and any concerns it may have caused. The message was being prepared as part of a drill planned for this Sunday, Oct. 8. It was not intended to be sent.
The message went out on social media channels and the university app.
This Sunday Tarleton will be the site for a practice exercise involving Stephenville and Erath County first responders, as well as the University Police Department and the Department of Nursing.
