Free Public Recital Featuring Trio Amaranti

STEPHENVILLE, Texas—The Department of Fine Arts at Tarleton State University presents Trio Amaranti in a free recital at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 8, in the theater of the Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center.
An early music chamber ensemble, Trio Amaranti brings baroque music to audiences across the United States. Originally from North Texas, the trio uses its unusual combination of two baroque flutes and harpsichord to create unique and varied French, German and Bohemian programs.
Founders Gaby Alvarado, Adam Buttyan and Kyle Collins collaborate regularly with emerging early musicians around the country. Most recently, Trio Amaranti performed both at the Boston Early Music Festival’s Fringe Concerts series and at the Harpsichord Clearing House. The trio will perform in three concert series this spring in the Greater Boston area in addition to a residency at Tarleton State University in Fort Worth.
In their March 8 appearance, the musicians will elaborate on the contributions of composers Johann Joachim Quantz, Karl Heinrich Graun, Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach and Johann Sebastian Bach, as well as Frederick the Great, King of Prussia, who—aside from being an important world leader—was a patron of the musical arts and a virtuoso flutist.
Trio Amaranti will open with Trio Sonata in G Major by Quantz, followed by Graun’s The Battle of Rosbach with Collins on Harpsichord. Prussian Sonata in C Major, composed by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, will take the audience to intermission.
The second half of the event features Ricercar a 3 from “The Musical Offering” by Johann Sebastian Bach, Duetto No. 2 in A Minor by Quantz and Sonata for Flute and Harpsichord, a composition of Frederick the Great.
