Tarleton grad named regional Teacher of the Year

STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Kami Dodds, a special education teacher at Brady High School and a Tarleton State University alumna, has been named Teacher of the Year for Texas Education Agency Region 15 by the Texas Association of School Administrators.

Dodds has taught special education at Brady High School for the past four years of her nine-year teaching career. She was a 2018 state semifinalist for the H-E-B Excellence in Education Award and isin the running for the 2020 secondary Texas Teacher of the Year award.

“As an educator, I have always believed that teachers should teach more than just academics,” she, said. “We need to guide our students in their actions, so that they can and will become the best possible versions of themselves.”

The Texas Association of School Administrators selects the Regional Teacher of the Year, as well as six finalists for the 2020 Texas Teacher of the Year title. Each of the 20 Education Service Center regions in Texas selects one elementary teacher and one secondary teacher as a Regional Teacher of the Year. These individuals are chosen due to their outstanding leadership and excellence in teaching.

Of the 40 Regional Teachers of the Year recently announced, eight are graduates of The Texas A&M University System.
