STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Vanguard University Dean of Teaching and Learning Dr. Bonni Stachowiak will keynote the annual Excellence in Teaching luncheon, which highlights Celebrate Teaching Week on the campus of Tarleton State University.
The event begins at noon Friday, Feb. 21, in the ballrooms of the Thompson Student Center.
Stachowiak is also an associate professor of business at management at the small, liberal arts university in Orange County, Calif., as well as host and producer of the “Teaching in Higher Ed” podcast.
Her address, “Heightening Students’ Curiosity Toward Deeper Learning,” is part of the week-long event theme of “Curiosity.”
Stachowiak’s appearance caps Celebrate Teaching Week activities beginning with Monday’s recognition of past winners of the Jack and Louise Arthur Excellence in Teaching Award, Last Lecture Series Speakers, the O.A. Grant Excellence in Teaching Award and Junior Faculty Award, at 4 p.m. in Room 125 of the Math Building.
At noon Tuesday, Feb. 18, also in Math 125, Tarleton faculty members will discuss the “Great Teaching Debate; Lecture vs. Non-Lecture.” Lunch will be provided.
Tarleton faculty members are offered a 30-minute boxing workout at noon, Wednesday, Feb. 19, in Room 27 of the Thompson Student Center. Farra Cleveland, owner of Pink Gloves Boxing, will lead Stephenville attendees, and Alex Allred will guide faculty participants in Fort Worth, who will workout in Room 121. Both sessions are followed by a healthy lunch.
Thursday’s noon lunch session recognizes international faculty members and their unique cultures in Math 125 on the Stephenville campus, in Room 122 in Fort Worth and MAC 139 in Waco on the campus of McLennan Community College.
Sessions for Friday’s Excellence in Teaching seminars begin at 8:30 a.m. and are planned at three venues — the Multipurpose Room in the Dick Smith Library, the Library Training Center and Room 125 in the Math Building.
