STEPHENVILLE, Texas — The Tarleton State University Latin Jazz Ensemble presents its fall concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 27, in the auditorium of the Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center in Stephenville. The event also features Tarleton State’s Jazz Combo 1.
Admission is $10 for adults; $8 for seniors, children and faculty; and $5 for students with a Tarleton ID.
The concert will showcase the rhythms and melodies of Afro-Cuban and Brazilian jazz, including “Mambo Influenciado” and “Calzada Del Cerro” by Chuco Valdes, “Afro Blue” by Mongo Santamaria and Alvaro Carrillo’s “Sabor a Mi.”
The Latin Jazz Ensemble consists of William Cazares on flute and alto saxophone, Devon Armstrong on tenor sax, Acacia Johnson on trombone, Mateo Rodriguez on piano, bassist Jackson Griffith and drummer Brody Custer.
Jazz Combo 1 will open the show with a funk-jazz fusion set including Thelonious Monk’s “Bemsha Swing,” “Chank” and “A Go Go” by John Scofield, and The Meters composition “Ease Back.”
Jazz Combo 1 comprises Nicholas Dorazil on alto saxophone, Mattias Piatt on tenor saxophone, Alan Gutierrez on trombone, Rodriguez on piano, Griffith on bass, and drummer Custer.
Percussion Instructor Connor Kent directs both groups.
