Annual Bicycle Roundup

STEPHENVILLE, Texas—Tarleton State University’s Police Department begins a roundup Friday, July 15, to collect bicycles left on campus racks following the spring semester.
Tarleton Police Chief Matt Welch said that the more than 80 bicycles identified for pickup appear to have been untouched throughout the summer. The annual roundup frees valuable rack space, he explained.
Police will store collected bicycles in the university’s Central Receiving warehouse for about eight weeks, giving students time to reclaim them. Police will auction unclaimed bicycles to the public as surplus property after Sept. 6.
Students who have a bicycle on campus and intend to return this fall should contact the University Police Department at 254-968-9002 as soon as possible with a description and last known location of their bike.
According to Welch, only six of the 80-plus bicycles left on campus are registered with the police department.
“It’s important for students to register their bikes,” Welch said. “Registration helps us contact owners and make sure that bicycles are properly secured.”
To reclaim an abandoned bicycle, call Central Receiving at 254-968-9611 or stop by the warehouse at 201 St. Felix St. from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
