Tarleton Police Announce Promotion

STEPHENVILLE, Texas—Tarleton State University’s Police Department today announced the promotion of Kristie Bint, longtime patrol officer and detective, to sergeant. She is the second female to achieve the rank of sergeant in the agency’s history.
“Detective Bint has been a tremendous advocate for the women on our campus. She is very compassionate and caring for victims of crime, especially for those who experience domestic or sexual abuse,” said University Police Chief Matt Welch. “As a patrol sergeant, Kristie will continue to demonstrate that same passion with the students she encounters and the officers she supervises.”
Bint joined the Tarleton Police Department nearly 16 years ago as a patrol officer and served as the agency’s lead detective during the past four. Rising through the ranks, she was promoted to detective in 2012.
In addition to investigative duties, Bint oversees the department’s semi-annual Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) course, serving as instructor to the all-women defensive techniques class. She also serves as a certified field training officer and the department’s use-of-force policy instructor.
A native of Cisco, Texas, Bint holds master and instructor certifications from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement. She attended the West Central Texas Regional Traning Center’s Law Enforcement Academy in Abilene and earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Tarleton in 2015 while working full-time with the university’s police department.
