Tarleton Tie-Down Roper in First Place

STEPHENVILLE, Texas—Tarleton State University cowboy Reid Zapalac vaulted into first place among tie-down ropers Tuesday at the 69th annual College National Finals Rodeo (CNFR) in Casper, Wyo.
Zapalac flashed a 9.1 in early slack action, and improved to 8.0 in Tuesday night’s performance. His first-go 10.2 gives him a 27.9 three-head total, nearly two seconds better than his nearest competition.
Tarleton barrel racer Lindsey McLeod also saw action twice on Tuesday, posting times of 14.67 and 20.16 to move into 11th place. Her first-go 15.01 clocking gives her 49.84 on three runs, about five seconds off the lead.
Five-time CNFR qualifier bareback rider Kody Lamb scored a 66.5 Tuesday. Combined with his first go 77.5, he has a 13th-place 144.
Action continues with today’s 7 p.m. performance featuring two members of Tarleton’s women’s team, Lauren Bane, carrying a two-head 13.5 into action, and breakaway roper Abby Medlin, who streaked to a 2.2 time in the first-go.
The CNFR continues with nightly performances through Saturday when event and team champions are crowned.
