Tarleton Rural Communication Week set for Nov. 18-22

STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Rural Communication Week, Nov. 18-22 on the Tarleton State University campus in Stephenville, will feature a variety of in-person and virtual presentations.

Events scheduled Monday, Nov. 18, and Tuesday, Nov. 19, will focus on rural communication research from communication studies graduate students and other invited guests. The presentations will take place on the Rural Communication Facebook page: ​https://www.facebook.com/THINKRuralComm/.

The Rural Communication Summit takes place Wednesday, Nov. 20, in the Dick Smith Library Multipurpose Room. The Rural Communication hotline, open from 3-4 p.m., launches Wednesday.

Thursday’s event is a ​#ThinkRuralComm​ Twitter chat at 8:30 p.m. Participants should search for the hashtag on Twitter and follow @ThinkRuralComm to see tweets.

A focus on free resources for individuals in rural areas highlights Friday’s festivities, which again takes place on the Rural Communication Facebook page: ​https://www.facebook.com/THINKRuralComm/.

The Rural Communication Institute (#ThinkRuralComm) is focused on helping people live, learn and thrive in rural areas of Texas, the United States and beyond. The institute seeks engaging presentations about the following topics:

     “Advancing Educational Opportunities with Internet Access and Partnerships.” Sessions will focus on:     preschool, K-12, community college, universities and military.

    “Modernizing Healthcare Access” sessions will focus on health/dental clinics, telemedicine, veterans, nursing homes/assisted living and hospitals.

    Homeownership, reducing homelessness, rural renting and rural lending are topics for “Innovative Options for Rural Housing.

   “Improving Rural Transportation Options” will include rural transit, fatality rates on rural roads, access to job sites and access to healthcare.

   “Modernizing Rural Utilities” sessions will focus on rural electric power systems, rural water systems, rural waste systems and high speed internet.

   “Community Resiliency Planning” will include sessions focused on rural money management, rural jobs of the future, rural internships and apprenticeship, and agriculture development.
