National Championship Qualifiers

STEPHENVILLE, Texas—Two Tarleton State University teams of anglers now advance to the Carhartt Bassmaster College Series National Championship—scheduled later this summer—following a three-day fishing tournament at Sam Rayburn Reservoir.
Tarleton Bass Fishing Club members Justin Seeton, Dakota Ebare, Stetson Overton and Cason Kelly qualified for the national championship on Jan. 28, finishing among the top 18 teams at the Carhartt Bassmaster College Series Central Regional tournament near Lufkin, Texas.
Seeton and Ebare finished in 10th place among 115 college teams, earning the duo a coveted berth in bass fishing’s biggest collegiate tournament. Following three days of fishing on Sam Rayburn Reservoir, the pair of anglers turned in 15 total bass for a accumulative weight of 17 pounds, 4 ounces to round out the field’s top 10 teams.
Tarleton’s Overton and Kelly also made the qualifying cut by placing 15th overall, with 15 bass weighing a total of 14 pounds, 4 ounces at the final weigh-in.
The Tarleton Bass Fishing Club entered nine teams at the Central Regional Jan. 26-28, represented by the following anglers:
• Tucker Sargent and Wyatt Young – 10 bass; 28 pounds, 9 ounces
• Logan Wilson and Chance Cobb – 10 bass; 23 pounds, 6 ounces
• Corbin Bogart and James Proctor – 5 bass; 11 pounds, 11 ounces
• Robert Ramsey – 3 bass; 6 pounds, 3 ounces
• Justin Tatum and Blake Bauer – 3 bass; 6 pounds, 2 ounces
• Brandon Consalus and Wayne Carillo – 2 bass; 3 pounds, 14 ounces
• Cody Hahn and Case Thompson – 1 bass; 1 pound, 9 ounces.
Texas Tech’s Travis McGuire and Layne Bynum took first place, with 15 bass weighing in at 69 pounds, 8 ounces. Second place honors went to the University of Louisiana-Monroe’s Tyler Craig and Spencer Lambert (15 fish; 57 pounds, 7 ounces), while Tyler Rivet and Cameron Naquin from Nicholls State captured third place with 15 bass, totaling 53 pounds, 9 ounces.
The Carhartt Bassmaster College Series presented by Bass Pro Shops provides college anglers a platform for competing with their peers in a national setting. Anglers can compete in one of five regionals and in a wild card tournament for the opportunity to advance to the national championship. From there, one college angler earns a coveted berth the Bassmaster Classic.
