STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Tarleton State University President Dr. James Hurley has been named treasurer for the Council of Public University Presidents and Chancellors (CPUPC).
As treasurer-elect, his two-year term will begin Sept. 1.
The nonprofit council is comprised of the chief executive officers of the Texas public general academic universities, system offices, health-related institutions and the three two-year state colleges in the Houston area.
CPUPC provides a forum to elevate the contributions and successes of Texas higher education institutions and helps to build collaborative networks for the discussion of mutual needs and concerns related to the challenges facing public universities in the state.
“I am honored to be nominated and selected for this role,” said Dr. Hurley. “Advancing the educational programs of all public colleges and universities in Texas is a collective effort. I look forward to continuing to work with leaders from all parts of our state for the greater good.”
Since 1983, CPUPC has met to advance Texas’ public senior colleges and universities as they pursue their respective goals of academic excellence, student career preparation, innovative research and community service.
A founding member of The Texas A&M System, Tarleton State University is breaking records — in enrollment, research, scholarship, athletics, philanthropy and engagement — while transforming the lives of approximately 18,000 students in Stephenville, Fort Worth, Waco, Bryan and online.
