Tarleton State WMN Celebrates March as Women’s History Month

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – The Tarleton State University Women’s Mentoring Network (WMN) is recognizing March as “A Month of Research,” highlighting the scholarship of its members on all of the Tarleton campuses.

The theme for Women’s History Month 2024, “Breaking Barriers, Building a Better Tomorrow,” resonates with the organization’s mission to empower the next generation of leaders.

“WMN members’ projects and research break barriers and help to build a better future,” said Michele Hancock, a WMN executive board member. “During the month, we will celebrate research and projects (https://www.linkedin.com/company/womensmentoringnetwork), further spreading the news about exciting developments at Tarleton State.”

Women’s History Month provides an opportunity to recognize the achievements and resilience of women across the globe. Executive board member Dr. Nicole Hurless said the organization is thrilled to “shine a spotlight on the incredible women who have made significant contributions to our society,” and Dr. Rebecca Morrow, another executive board member, emphasized a desire to highlight Tarleton State scholars who are “paving the way with their research contributions.”

WMN members will head to the annual Texas Women in Higher Education (TWHE) conference in April.  Tarleton State is a platinum sponsor.

About the Tarleton Women’s Mentoring Network: Tarleton WMN began as a writing accountability group designed to provide a forum and motivation to help employees achieve their research goals. Over time, the group’s conversations shifted to more general support, encouragement and mentoring. From those roots, TSU WMN was born in connection with the Texas Women in Higher Education and Texas A&M System goals to support those in the academy. TSU WMN was created in August 2019. Its TWHE institutional representative is Dr. Helvie-Mason.

A founding member of The Texas A&M System, Tarleton State University is breaking records — in enrollment, research, scholarship, athletics, philanthropy and engagement — while transforming the lives of approximately 18,000 students in Stephenville, Fort Worth, Waco, Bryan and online. For 125 years, Tarleton State has been committed to accessible higher education opportunities for all while helping students grow academically, socially and professionally through programs that emphasize real world learning and address regional, state and national needs.
