Tarleton State’s Jazz II and III Ensembles in Concert Oct. 13

STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Tarleton State University’s Jazz II and III ensembles will be in concert at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 13 in the Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center Auditorium in Stephenville.

The Jazz II ensemble show, directed by Mark Scott, will focus on the music and the performance styles of the Duke Ellington Orchestra and the Count Basie Orchestra, with a heavy emphasis on the blues.

Wade Girton directs the Jazz III ensemble, which will perform music associated with the Count Basie Orchestra, music by Andrew Hill, an avant-garde composer and pianist associated with the Blue Note Records label, and, in the tradition of the Count Basie Old Testament Band, a blues piece collaboratively arranged on the spot.

Admission to the concert is $5 for students and $10 for the general public.

A founding member of The Texas A&M System, Tarleton State University is breaking records — in enrollment, research, scholarship, athletics, philanthropy and engagement — while transforming the lives of approximately 18,000 students in Stephenville, Fort Worth, Waco, Bryan and online.
