STEPHENVILLE, Texas —For the first time since 2010, Tarleton State University football will debut on a Thursday night in front of Texan Nation to begin its 11-game season.

Originally scheduled to be played the first Saturday in September, Tarleton and Delta State mutually agreed to open the season at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 30, at Memorial Stadium in Stephenville. The home opener will be a “Purple Out” game in conjunction with “Purple Thursday” at Tarleton.

From there, Tarleton will spend the next two weekends on the road at NCAA Division I Stephen F. Austin and West Texas A&M before returning home on Sept. 22 for Family Weekend against UT Permian Basin. Family Weekend will be the inaugural “Legends Game,” with Tarleton Athletics recognizing 2001 Texan Football team members who led the university into the NCAA playoffs for the first time in school history.

Following a road trip to Angelo State, Tarleton’s third home game is a “Pink Out” game in Stephenville on Oct. 6, when the Texans play host to Eastern New Mexico. Fans are encouraged to join student-athletes in wearing pink to support cancer awareness.

Tarleton travels to defending national champion Texas A&M-Commerce Lions on Oct. 13 and then come back home on Oct. 20 for the annual Homecoming game. Kickoff will be at 6 p.m.

After the final road game of the regular season at Midwestern State, Tarleton is home for the last two weekends of the season to host Lincoln (Mo.) in a non-conference game at 7 p.m. on Nov. 3, and Western New Mexico in the season finale at 2 p.m. on Nov. 10.
