Tarleton Alumnus Named TRIO Achiever

STEPHENVILLE, Texas—Tarleton State University alumnus and past Upward Bound Project participant Sunny Brous Erasmus has been recognized as a TRIO Achiever.
Erasmus received the honor at the 2017 TRIO State Conference in Tyler, Texas, recognizing her outstanding professional and civic contributions.
The Upward Bound Program is one of eight TRIO programs located on more than 2,800 college campuses and community centers around the nation, serving approximately 820,000 young people and adults.
TRIO programs provide academic tutoring, personal counseling, cultural enrichment, financial guidance and other services needed to succeed at the high school and college levels.
A 2005 graduate of Hico High School, Erasmus received a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies degree from Tarleton in 2009. While at the university, she was heavily involved in the spirit organization P.A.N.K.U.S. and with the Recreational Sports Department. She also served as a Texan Rep.
Erasmus earned a master’s of education with a concentration in physical education from Texas State University in 2011 and currently is employed with Junior Achievement of the Chisolm Trail Inc. Similar to TRIO programs, Junior Achievement also prepares high school students for college while instilling real-world skills needed to prosper after graduation.
