STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Dr. Laura Boren, Tarleton State University’s vice president of Student Affairs, has been selected lone finalist for a similar position at Georgia Southwestern State University, effective July 1.

“Dr. Boren’s leadership and commitment have brought us closer to our goal of becoming the premier student-focused university in Texas and beyond,” said Tarleton President F. Dominic Dottavio. “We take great pride in her selection, and wish her the best in this new chapter of her life.”

As GSW’s first vice president of Student Engagement and Success — a combination of student life and enrollment management — Boren will serve as the school’s chief student affairs and retention officer and oversee efforts that ensure overall student well-being.

Boren joined Tarleton in 2015 following an 18-year career in higher education — 13 years at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Okla., and five at Texas A&M University in College Station.

“It has been an honor to serve as vice president of Student Affairs at Tarleton State University,” Boren said. “I am very proud of the division team and its accomplishments. Tarleton students — their spirit, tradition and pride — are the best. I will always bleed purple.”

Boren earned her doctorate in higher education administration from Texas A&M. She obtained her master’s degree in college student personnel services and her bachelor’s in meetings and destination management from Northeastern.
