Night at the Opera House
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Tuesday, April 18, 2017
STEPHENVILLE, Texas—Tarleton State University’s W.K. Gordon Center for Industrial History of Texas presents a free screening of the 1934 classic “It Happened One Night” as part of a Night at the Opera House set for Saturday, April 29.
The screening begins at 6:30 p.m. in the museum’s theater in the historic ghost town of Thurber. Free refreshments will be served at intermission.
Produced by Columbia Pictures and directed by Frank Capra, the romantic comedy stars Claudette Colbert, a pampered socialite who tries to get out from under her father’s thumb and falls in love with a roguish reporter—played by Clark Gable—on a madcap cross-country tour. The plot is based on the 1933 short story “Night Bus” by Samuel Hopkins Adams.
“It Happened One Night” was the first film to win all five Academy Awards—best picture, director, actor, actress and screenplay. The movie is included in the U.S. National Film Registry.
Seating for the upcoming Night at the Opera House is limited. Reservations are encouraged. Call 254-968-1886 or email gordoncenter@tarleton.edu to save your spot.
The W.K. Gordon Center, a Tarleton museum and research facility, is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays and from 1 to 4 p.m. Sundays. The center is located at Exit 367 on Interstate 20 between Fort Worth and Abilene. For more information, visit www.tarleton.edu/gordoncenter or the museum’s Facebook page.
