Tarleton’s Tallach to chair TAHPERD Sport Management section

STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Dr. Tom Tallach, head of the Department of Sport Science in Tarleton State University’s School of Kinesiology, has been elected chair of the Sport Management section of the Texas Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (TAHPERD).

Tallach has been part of the Tarleton faculty since 2013. He previously was a practitioner in the sport marketplace, coaching college basketball and serving in multiple roles as a mid-manager, including a stint as Tarleton assistant athletics director, 2005-2007. He has directed athletics programs at the high school, NCAA Division I and NCAA Division II levels.

He chaired the NCAA Division I Summit League Joint Council and was an advisory board member of the Northwest Louisiana Regional Sports Authority. He has directed multiple NCAA Division I and Division II championship events and served as a regional athletics director for the University Interscholastic League

Highly regarded in the areas of governance, legislation and compliance, Tallach has served as an expert panelist and presenter at regional and national seminars.

TAHPERD is composed of more than 3,500 professional and student members serving education from early childhood through college and also represents interests in government and private agencies, business, and the health care industry.. The organization was founded in 1923 and is the only association in Texas serving education in all four of our disciplines — health, physical education, recreation and dance.
