Status of Tarleton State University’s Baccalaureate Degree Nursing Education Program
The Texas Board of Nursing has placed Tarleton State’s Nursing Program on conditional approval status, meaning no new students can be admitted to the program for the Fall 2024 semester. The program will continue on this status until an 80% pass rate is achieved on the NCLEX-RN® exams for the 2024 calendar year. As of report date October 8, 2024, Tarleton State University’s first-time pass rate is 94.67% for 2024.

We remain fully accredited through the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). CCNE gave a fresh 10-year reaccreditation to Tarleton State in May 2024
What steps are being taken to regain full approval status with the Texas Board of Nursing?
Under the guidance of the new Dean of the School of Nursing, Dr. J. Michael Leger, Tarleton State continues to work collaboratively with the Texas Board of Nursing to ensure a comprehensive approach to restoring the program’s status. As of October 8, 2024, the most recent cohort’s pass rate is 94.67%, which is above the state average.
What is the process for returning to full approval status?
When the program achieves at least an 80% pass rate for first-time candidates for the 2024 NCLEX-RN® examination year (January 1, 2024, through December 31, 2024). Tarleton State is on track to eclipse the 80% pass rate threshold.
How does this change in status impact freshmen who started fall 2024?
Incoming freshmen are admitted as pre-nursing students and are not affected by status changes until the time to apply to the School of Nursing. Students apply in the last semester of their sophomore year.
When can Tarleton State be moved to full approval status?
The Texas Board of Nursing has Tarleton State on its meeting agenda for January 31, 2025. At that time, Tarleton will be notified when the School of Nursing can then resume accepting applications.
When will applicants who were deferred admission receive more information?
