Performance Opportunities
Chamber Choir
The Chamber Choir is Tarleton’s premier choral ensemble. The group is tailored to students who want to experience the greater challenges of working together for excellence in the choral art. In addition to three concerts with the Select Women’s Ensemble and Texan Gentlemen, Chamber Choir joins University Singers in Tarleton’s semi-annual presentation of masterworks. The group is open to music majors and non-majors. Auditions for Chamber Choir are held in the week before classes each fall and spring.
The choir meets Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 1:00-1:50 P.M. and on Thursday from 3:00-3:50 P.M. in Choir Hall.
Select Women’s Ensemble
The Select Women’s Ensemble consists of experienced singers who wish to perform the best in choral repertoire for treble choir. Together they present four concerts each year, often collaborating with Tarleton’s Chamber Choir and the Texan Gentlemen. The group’s repertoire covers the spectrum of choral music, from favorite works by Mozart to beloved spirituals to innovative arrangements of folk music.
Meetings are held Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 3:00-3:50 P.M. in Choir Hall.
Texan Gentlemen
Tarleton’s men’s choir, founded by students, grants Texan men the opportunity to lift their voices in harmony. Barbershop, doo wop, Bach, and pop all find their way into the ensemble’s concert repertoire. The group presents four concerts each year, and makes occasional appearances around Tarleton’s campus.
Meetings are scheduled for Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 4:00-4:50 P.M. in Choir Hall.
University Singers
The University Singers perform masterworks of choral repertoire each fall and spring. We are proud once again to be able to welcome the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra for our fall concert.
Scheduled meetings will be held Tuesdays from 7:00-9:00 P.M.
Students who wish to enroll as music majors may audition for admission and scholarships at any time. The audition consists of one solo of your choosing, a brief interview with the voice faculty, and exercises to assess your musicianship. You may either sing with your accompanist, a CD, or our staff accompanist, Dr. Bradley Baker. We do not require selections in languages other than English, but ask that you sing a solo comparable to those found on the U.I.L. Prescribed Music List (art songs or arias). Auditions are conducted throughout the spring semester.
For more information contact the Director of Choirs, Dr. Troy Robertson.
We encourage students to audition on a weekday, if possible, so that they may see our ensembles rehearse and speak to all members of our voice faculty.
