A student who gets involved in research has the opportunity to grow their knowledge base, develop their problem solving and computational skills, become a better communicator, and demonstrate dedication and commitment and teamwork. The faculty in the College of Science and Mathematics are student oriented and many have student driven research labs. Although taking part in research is not for everyone, many opportunities exist to get involved right here on campus. Check out faculty websites to see what faculty are doing. If you see something that sparks your interest, schedule a meeting to talk to faculty member about their work. Just remember, one faculty member can only take on so many students at any given time.
Another great opportunity for research is in the form of summer research programs. The COSM maintains a list of may of these summer research opportunities, often located at well known research campuses. Check out links to many of these programs at COSM’s “STEM External Excellence Programs”
