UNIV 0010 is a free course intended to provide an extra layer of accountability and support to students who need it. It is a once-a-week course that does not impact GPA. These support courses do not add to a student’s workload as each assignment is geared to help them put the learned skills into practice with their other courses.

The Academic Strategies course focuses on these 5 areas:

  • Learning skills
    • Study strategies  
    • Reasoning skills 
    • Note-taking techniques 
  • Time management
    • Prioritization 
    • Planning and scheduling 
    • Monitoring and assessing progress 
  • Ability to maintain motivation
    • Goal setting 
    • Creating action plan 
    • Self-efficacy 
  • Ability to reflect on learning
    • Seeing learning as a process 
    • Reflecting on current habits 
    • Adjusting learning experience through self-evaluation 
  • Ability to maintain the capacity to learn
    • Stress management 
    • Utilizing resources 
    • Managing study environment 

Students who actively participated in this course in Fall 2022 showed an 80% success rate.  However, those who were enrolled and did not participate only showed a 10% success rate.  Those who were enrolled in Spring 2023 and actively participated showed a 66% success rate.  Those who were enrolled but did not participate showed only a 32% success rate.  Success rate is measured by if students enrolled in the next semester or if they graduated.
