PE-18: Location of System Components

NIST Baseline: High

Position system components within the facility to minimize potential damage from physical and environmental hazards and to minimize the opportunity for unauthorized access.
Consolidate all significant information resource equipment into centralized member data center(s) or approved commercial data center(s).
The data center must have at a minimum:
- Redundant power delivery as specified in Control PE-11, Emergency Power;
- Redundant networks as specified in Control CP-8, Telecommunications Services;
- Redundant cooling as specified in Control PE-14, Environmental Controls; and
- Adequate physical and cybersecurity as specified in the Physical and Environmental Protection (PE) and System and Communications Protection (SC) control families.
