Bottomland forests are found along the riparian zones of rivers and streams. They are one of the most biologically productive ecosystems on land; unfortunately, less that 15% of the original bottomland forests in Texas remain.
REU students will:
- restore 6.31 ha (15.6 acres) of ranch land into a field containing bottomland trees, primary cedar elm (Ulmus crassifolia) and green ash (Fraxinus pennsylvanica), as well as native forbs and grasses.
