Fall Senior Capstone Exhibition Series

Seventeen students graduating from the Department of Visual Arts and Design this Fall will be showcasing their work in senior capstone exhibits starting October 30th through December 4th at the Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center Gallery.  Because of the number of graduates, there will be a rotation of four exhibitions in the gallery during that time.  This presents an opportunity for the artists to mount a professional display of creative work and research in the area of study the student intends to focus on upon graduation.

The first show, from October 30th – November 5th, will be a group exhibition of the work of Shaylin Carter, Joseph DuFrain, Alexandra Mendoza, and Emily Olivo.  This exhibition will feature graphic design, photography, sculpture, and video game design work.  The second exhibition runs from November 7th through the 13th and will feature Jillian Nemec, Tori Radke, and Kayli Rodriguez. A variety of works will be featured from drawing, photography to illustration.  The third exhibition will run from November 15th to the 21st, and will feature Ariel Hayes, Jade Hernandez, Devon Roland,  and Russell Stone.  Some of the styles of work in this exhibition will include digital illustration, drawing, and graphic design. And the final exhibition will run from November 25th to December 4th, and will feature Chris Carter, Caden McLaury, Reagan Missel, and Madison Sharp. These exhibitions will feature digital illustration, photography, and video work.   We will also be screening the documentary/short film work of Amanda Carpenter and Samuel Yankie on November 14th in the Fine Arts Center Workshop Theater.

Senior advisor and art professor Chris Ireland states, “this group represents the variety and breadth of work that comes out of the Department of Visual Arts & Design at Tarleton State.  Each week there will be new and interesting forms of work that our seniors have worked very hard to complete. The variety of styles of work is a testament to the multifaceted programs our faculty design to give the students the opportunity to go forth from Tarleton with a strong portfolio.“

The TSU Gallery of Art within the Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center serves and enriches the students of the Department of Visual Arts & Design and the communities of Stephenville and North Central Texas through exhibitions and special events. The TSU Gallery of Art presents curatorial programs that challenge and promote discourse while highlighting regional as well as internationally-based artists.

The gallery hosts 3 or 4 shows each semester, usually opening with a reception and often with a lecture and/or workshop by the featured artist(s). These events are free to the public, more details can be found on TSU Gallery Facebook Page or the Fine Arts Calendar. Senior exhibitions are a feature of the schedule in fall and spring semesters. These shows are required of all graduating Visual Arts and Design majors to display a body of work or a research project chosen by the student. The Annual Juried Student Exhibition takes place every spring. This exhibition is open to all students and is juried by curators and artists from the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

This long-running national exhibition attracts jurors and artists from across the globe. All proceeds from the exhibition go to scholarships for students in the Department of Visual Arts & Design.

The 2024 Edition will be opening this April and will be juried by artist Timothy Harding. The call for entries will come out in January.
